About Bolton Children's Opportunity Group (COG)

Bolton Children's Opportunity Group (COG) was started in 1979 by a small group of parents of children with learning and/or physical disabilities.

Bolton Children’s Opportunity Group is based in Lowndes Street.

COG's initial aim was to provide a stepping stone between home, playgroup and/or nursery, for under fives with disabilities and or special educational needs. Over the years COG has become a leader in the field of inclusive provision for under 5s.

COG also gives parents the chance to meet others with similar problems, so they can be of mutual help.

COG has a mini-bus offering a door-to-door service, to families who would otherwise be unable to attend the group.

COG has input from Speech and Physiotherapists, Health Visitors, Social Workers and Educational Psychologists.

COG also incorporates the ‘Blue Room,' the only specialist pre-school provision in Bolton, for children with Autism and other Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Bolton Children's Opportunity Group is a Buy Once Give Twice Partner Charity

The charity also caters for teenagers, by offering outreach services for them in the community. The charity was set up in 1979, by Nicola McGuinness, whose daughter has Down’s Syndrome and works to get support in mainstream schools for children with such learning needs.

Registered charity number 512813. COG is registered with Early Years OFSTED
